Deadzone
A deadzone is the zone around a stick’s center where slight movement is treated as no input, set to prevent tiny wobble from registering. Tuned well, it feels invisible; set too large, aiming feels mushy and disconnected; set too small, it can surface early drift. Many handhelds and emulators expose deadzone settings, and dialing them in is a cheap fix for a stick that feels off. It is also why a “drifting” stick sometimes just needs recalibration rather than replacement.
